Did Disney Create the Force Unleashed 2

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 3 Updates - Will It Happen?

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was a fan-favorite franchise that appears to have been abandoned. Will Starkiller ever return to finish his story?

Will Star Wars: The Force Unleashed IIIever happen? The first two entries in theStar Wars: The Force Unleashed series were released on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and handhelds like the PSP and Nintendo DS. The first game was well-received by both fans and critics. The second - the imaginatively-titled Star Wars: The Force Awakens II -released just two years later in 2010, was less of a big seller and widely considered to have been a rushed addition to the franchise.

The two chapters in theStar Wars: The Force Unleashedfranchise take place betweenStar Wars Episode III - Revenge Of The Sithand the originalStar Wars, acting as a bridge between the trilogies. The story revolves around Darth Vader's secret apprentice Starkiller, who players control as he either ventures to the 'Light Side' of the Force to aid the burgeoning rebellion, or sticks to the Dark Side and seeks to usurp Vader as Emperor Palpatine's prized pupil.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed fans responded well to the Starkiller character and the ability to use cool Force powers -including dual-wielding lightsabers in the sequel. With it now having been a decade since the last installment, will fans ever seeStar Wars: The Force Unleashed III?

Disney Bought Lucasfilm

The major event which occurred to hurt development ofStar Wars: The Force Unleashed III was the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney. Following the purchase of all Star Wars IP by Disney, the video game arm of the company LucasArts subsequently folded, leaving all of its in-development titles by the wayside. Starkiller actor Sam Witwer discussed with IGN the possibility of returning forStar Wars: The Force Unleashed III back in 2013. He seemed hopeful it would get back on track following the release of the then-upcomingStar Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but unfortunately, that wasn't meant to be.

Witwer had even discussed the storyline for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed III with series writer/producer Haden Blackman. Blackman later told Cinelinx the game would have centered around Darth Vader and Starkiller teaming up to combat a new threat from Emperor Palpatine in what would have been more of an open-world setting.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is No Longer Canon

The Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series was once regarded as canon, but since Disney abandoned all 'Expanded Universe' content the game's storyline now falls under the 'Star Wars: Legends' banner. That said, Sam Witwer himself has recently put the games' status as canon into question.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed III Probably Won't Happen

The new stewards of the Star Wars games - for better or ill - are Electronic Arts, and in 2019 they released their own third-person Jedi actionerStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. With that game essentially taking pride of place as the franchise's third-person, Force-wielding action and adventure game, there seems to be no room for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed III . Instead, fans are more likely to witness Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order II, as that game's sales climb past 8 million.
